Last night Grace UMC here in Burnville hosted a Service of Lament & Healing for the wider community. Below is a small segment of the many prayers that were spoken and held in that space. Thought it would be healing and helpful to share this in this public digital space as well:
"Tonight, we bring the fullness of our emotions over the tragedy we all experienced together in our community.
We weep with the family of first responder Paul Elmstrand
whose life was tragically taken too soon – light candle
We weep with the family of first responder Matthew Ruge
whose life was tragically taken too soon – light candle
We weep with the family of first responder Adam Finseth
whose life was tragically taken too soon – light candle
We weep with first responder Adam Medlicott
whose wounds mark the trauma and loss of comrades – light candle
We weep with the unidentified 7 children and mother
whose lives are now marked by violence & trauma – light candles
We weep for our Burnsville and surrounding communities
who are trying to make sense of senseless violence and loss of life - Light candle
We weep for ourselves
and the ways we feel lost to the brokenness of the world and the
brokenness within each one of us – light candle
We are confused, we are angry, we are sad.
We do not know how to pray.
And so we bring our sisters, our brothers and our community to you - O Healing God.
May they trust and know there is a place of safety for them
and for all seeking refuge."
